The conspiracy theory version HAS crossed my mind, to be honest. But then I remember that people are stupid, and that’s really the Occam’s razor explanation.

holy crap my parents got me that exact dresser… for free from a pennysaver! It looked dumb in my monet water lily everything-ed room. Then again, my room looked pretty dumb.
Holy cow, that looks exactly like a piece of furniture my mother used to own! She bought it back in 1968, I think, but I had no idea it was one of the illusive French Prudential pieces! I grew up with classic furniture and never knew it.
