YSaC, Vol. XXXIV
TV nice french prudential wood cabinet
just put in the alley of XXth and XXXdale. Will try to remove post when gone
Ah, the historically significant French Prudential period. That was a lovely era in television design, wasn’t it? Look at those classic lines and the elegant arches. They just don’t make ’em like that anymore.
But ho, readers, we are in luck! It appears that the French Prudential style is having a resurgence of popularity on Craigslist: witness these two other recent listings from a completely different city, one known more for its interactions with the British:
french prudential leather – $1000
3 piece couch set french prudential leather.1 couch,1 loveseat,and 1 arm chair.
french prudential corner china closet – $400
1 corner china closet ,french prudential
You know, now that I really think about it, I prefer the Belgian Geico era. They really knew what they were doing with TV design.
(French Prudential TV listing sent in by a reader — thanks!)
Ah, so we get back to where it first began. I just discovered this site and have been reading all the older posts and seen the many (more recent) listings of French Prudential furniture – so while I have 30-some more posts before I get to your first post – I’m going to guess that this was the earliest mention of this furniture style.
Well French Prudential just be happy that apparently you are taking Craigslist by storm. And to the creator of this site – great job on this site – it is so wonderful and funny!
Welcome Mary Ann! You cannot love the creators of this site too much (we call them the Llamanun and the Ostrimu, Bees Be Upon Them). Come, snark with us.
Psst, Tank Girl, you need to use the way-back machine to 2009 for your message to be received. Sorry.
LOL – you’re right. *begins speaking into a tin can in cheesy would-be-creepy voice*
Mary Ann… Mary Ann… this is Tankerbell speaking to you from the future…
Ah, screw it. *goes out to DeLorean*
Oh my god, you can see the exposed seat cushions! For shame!
Wow, that TV sure gets good reception out in the alley! The picture is so clear and life-like. But French Prudential won’t go with my Early American Thrift Shop/eSurance living room. Have to pass.
Yeah, apparently that new Fox show, “Back Alley” is on.
All of these Sparkies misheard the name of the style. It’s actually called French Imprudential.
I’m a fan of Modern Progressive, myself, but it’s too pricy so I fake it with Scandinavian Safe Auto.
With profuse apologies to the Beatles:
Dear Prudential, won’t you come out to play?
Dear Prudential, greet the brand new day
The TV is off, the couch isn’t blue
It’s not beautiful and neither are you
Dear Prudential, won’t you come out to play?
Dear Prudential, just put in the alley
Dear Prudential, hope that chair isn’t smelly
The wind is low, the Sparks will sing
That you are trash, like everything
Dear Prudential, you’ve been just put in the alley
Look around round
(Round round round, round round)
(Round round round, round round)
Look around round round
(Round round round, round round)
(Round round round, round round)
Look around
*puts on best Homer voice*
Mmmmm, beatles!
Is it me, or does that leather furniture have ears like Ferenghi?
Yes.
If that’s a corner closet, I’m a lion. Ra…*hack hack hack* wrrr
When I was young(er), I liked to hide in the closet (no, not the water closet.)
But there is no place to hide in this corner closet. No fun at all.
Is that corner closet French or Chinese?
I don’t know much about the French. Are they so more prudent than other countries that they get to use the prudential moniker? Maybe French Prudential is an artistic style then? Is it prudent to have all those swirlies and curlies in your furniture? Doesn’t that make it harder to clean? Then you have to hire a french maid…. Ooh La La! I get it. Those French types, They’re so clever.
“curlies in your furniture?”
Umm, maybe I’ll just stand when I visit.
“Will try to remove post when gone”
Why? Do you have one stuck somewhere?
Dave, Hammy, One, Ferrets, thanks for making YSaC so much fun! Punchity Punch Punch!
Good Morning, Nice!
